College should be a wonderful time of coming of age for young adults. It is often a time of both spiritual and mental maturity, nevertheless recent studies acknowledge that college students are leaving the church at increasing rates, whether they be sacred or secular schools. College is often the first place students interact with militant atheists, who proselytize with vigor with such books as God is not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything. Over time students begin to wonder at the brilliance and charisma of their profs quietly asking themselves, “What does he or she know that I don’t know?” Ill equipped, many succumb to the temptation to leave the faith.

For this reason, Covenant Reformed Church is hosting a College Bootcamp that seeks to help students “honor Christ the Lord as holy” (1Pet 3:15). The Greek verb for “honor” in the ESV is “to sanctify.” We are commanded to set apart (to sanctify) Christ as our Holy Lord, “always being prepared to make a defense… for the reason” for our Christian hope. This course helps Christians know that when it comes to reason and faith, the unbeliever doesn’t have much and that they can easily sanctify Christ on the campus.

Our students need to listen and learn from the brilliant men and women God has and will put in their way in their secular studies, nevertheless, secular studies do not negate the sacred but only expose its understanding and beauty (Ps 19:1–6). This course deals with apologetics, but also Christian study and college recreational ethics. In addition, this course explains the necessity of the church during the college years that all in all that our students may sanctify Christ as Lord in their studies.
